the night. It was during the night that I woke up to find my left knee really stiff. I feared the worst. By morning it was still stiff although I could bend and twist OK. I decided not to ski on Friday. Richard saw his chance for victory and looked pretty determined. Oh well there’s always next year Richard

Friday afternoon and we had the ski school presentations. As usual we were well represented in the medal tables. Well done to Laura Wildash, Paul Brimelow in particular. . Just time for me to work on Gottfried to try and get him to join us at the Steak House. I got the impression he wouldn’t be there.

Around 5:30 we were ready to get back to the village.

Now the mad dash to get hired equipment back and to persuade people to pack at least a little bit, before we went to the steak house, as we had a very early start in the morning. Somehow we got everyone sorted and by 8pm we all met at the restaurant where we eat all week., the Laterndlwirt. It gave us a chance to say goodbye to our friend there and the other people we had met that week whilst we waited for the taxis to take us down. In we walk to find Gottfried smiling and waiting for us. Everyone was pleased as many had asked him to join us.

He was very anxious to say how much he had enjoyed the week with us and he hoped to see us all back there again. So we started the usual evening of fun with Helmut serving up his delicious combination of good food, good beer and some very, very old music. As ever the meal was superb and everyone enjoyed it. Quite how many schnapps Helmut plied us with I can’t remember but the week had taken it’s toll physically, on us and the taxis were summoned to get us back to St Veit.

Well we should have gone to bed as we needed to be up at 6:00 in the morning and away by 7:30, but oh dear the disco and Michael and Kirsten called. Besides Richard and I had to make it past midnight to maintain our record of going to bed the day after we got up!! Not a lot later than midnight we just had to give in and get to bed.

In the morning everyone was ready and we were away on our journey to Munich.

Another superb week in St Veit, where once again the snow conditions had been great we had acquitted ourselves well against the Americans and we were all in one piece. Oh dear for 3 of us it is all of a week until we are off to USA with the next club trip!!
