Our Austrian connections and members

As a club we have long had international members with people living in USA and Europe. However we are pleased to welcome an internationally qualified and full time ski instructor as a member.

Gottfried Viehhauser is an instructor in the "Red, White, Red" ski school in St Johann / Alpendorf where we usually run two trips each season.

Gottfried is the senior instructor with the ski school. Although he usually takes the top class each week he can be seen most mornings talking to the instructors and ensuring that all is OK. A native Austrian, Gottfried comes from Goldegg which is a small village just a few kilometres from St Veit. He loves skiing, of course, but he loves passing on his knowledge to others too. He takes great care to explain techniques to his classes but also like to make sure they are having fun. Gottfried's sense of humour, his very good command of English and his dedication to getting your technique right combine perfectly with his own superb ski style to make an all round top quality instructor.

Gottfried is a passionate watcher of ski racing and has coached racing technique. Amongst others he has been coach to the US Air Force racing team. I have had the pleasure of skiing with Gottfried for over 20 years now and every year I learn something new from him. As an added talent he is the man if you want your skis tuned by hand to absolute perfection although I suspect he always saves his very best for his own skis which never seem to slip on the ice unlike everyone else in the class. Gottfried has skied Head Skis for as long as anyone can remember preferring them to Atomic which sponsor the ski school.
